         Mirage |

 | On August 4, 1996, the parking lot near the north entrance to the mall appeared to be flooded with water. I watched cars and trucks drive through the puddle, and several pedestrians appeared to walk on top of the water to reach their cars. As I approached the puddle, however, it disappeared. No wind; air temperature approximately 100 degrees Farenheit; pavement very hot to the touch. |

 | Parking lots and paved streets are great places to look for inferior mirages. The weather where you live will affect when and where you see mirages. Where I live, in Los Angeles, it is warm and sunny during the day, cool at night, and there's plenty of pavement to hold the heat. I sometimes see mirages in the morning when I ride my bike to work and nearly always see them when I bike home for lunch.
