Overview:

Students will create an exhibit for the museum.

Grade Level:

6th-12th

Greatest Places Theme:

Spatial Perspectives, systems, human impact on environment

Objectives:

Create a quality museum exhibit to open in concurrence with the film opening of Greatest Places. To work collaboratively with MOSI staff. To link learners from different areas of the school district. To give students an understanding of how museum exhibits are developed. To provide problem solving activities in a real-life context.

Materials:

Paper, pencil, people, money, money, more money

Activities:

1) Establish a team to plan for the exhibit including MOSI experts, business partner, teachers of local high schools and middle schools.and USF experts
2) Develop an action plan with timeline, funding , job descriptions.
3) Implement plan....have students work with Museum staff on once/weekend basis--or afterschool basis.
4) Grand opening -in association with film opening

Assessment Strategies:

1) Teachers will provide assessment for students for each participating school.
2) Museum will evaluate effectiveness of program. Museum will need to research similar activities produced by other museums. They could hire a outside consultant to evaluate effectiveness of program.

Timeline:

August-September 97, Assemble team: MOSI staff & local teachers & district supervisor& USF geography-educators.
October-Dec 97, Develop action plan , develop timeline, secure funding
Jan.98-Dec 98, Work on exhibit
Dec 98 Grand opening of exhibit
