Program Overview:
- Science/Social Studies Integration
-- Teachers will explore science/geography activities relating to Greatest Places .
Content will include how students can use use culture bags to explore their own culture
and that of other countries. Landform development. Computer integration using Greatest
Places Web Site and GSI software and handheld GPS. Will see science center connections -- Miniature Railroad and Village, observing river, erosion table, aeolian
landscape. 9am - 3pm.
- Greatest Places on the Go.
Teachers will view Greatest Places;
do geology activities at Science Center (water table and Aelion landscapes, then travel
to the Warhol where will be introduced to culture bags and Andy Warhol boxes, then
go to Natural History Museum where will use dioramas and touchable cultural artifacts and animal/plants from 7 regions, perhaps Pittsburgh Zoo and Phipps Conserv atory
to see animal/plant adaptations. (1 day - 1 week depending on time have Greatest
Places)

-- After school program will have light refreshments, hands on activities set up in
the lobby and will preview omni.

Expand professional development offerings to include social studies teachers.

Timeline for Planning and Implementation:
When date is confirmed, schedule education/marketing staff Preview Event for generating
excitement, introducing the themes, and brainstorming. Staff bring culture bags
and use these as introduction to geography themes. Will show animatic/video.
Teacher resource book, Web site materials, Trunk description will be circulated to
all required coordinators.
Coordinators will determine common activity offerings -- assign development of the
materials
Survvey local social studies educators to detemine interest
Each coordinator will write product descriptions according to yearly calender requirements
for publications
