Overview
- Family Days will provide families the chance to learn about Fleet Center resources
as a family unit. Special demonstrations, handouts, The Greatest Places
OMNIMAX( film screening and community family organizations are proposed highlights.
The Family Guide to the film project can be introduced to this target group and
can serve as an evaluation tool for this type of educational materials that accompany
large-format films.
Program Goals
-The Family Day goals are to bring family units to the Fleet Center, introduce The Greatest Places
Family Guide to families, and illustrate, via short demonstration/workshops, understanding
and connection with place. Another goal of this type of event is todevelop a relationship
between the Fleet Center and families, showing them how to heighten their OMNIMAX expereinces. Parents,grandparents, etc. can learn ways to use the Fleet
Center as a resource for family science education in relation to films, ExhibitGallerie,
Lectures and other science relationships.
Implementation Procedure

Date(s) and times will be set that are appropriate for families, weekend mornings,
or during school holidays.
The Greatest Places film will be screened at the start of the event.
Trunk material and hands-on activities will be presented to families to show them
ways to bring the connections to the film home with them.
Exploration time will be given to each family group to allow for museum connections
to be made between the film, family lives and the Fleet Center Exhibit Galleries.
Program Audience
- Family Days will be targeted to family units from throughout San Diego County.
Advertisement of the event will be done in San Diego Family Magazine and other publications
geared to family education. Children aged 4-13 will be invited to attend the event .
Internal Contacts
- Education Coordinator will be contacted to make room arrangements. Flyers and
posters will be contracted with graphics, via Education Coordinator. Education Specialist
will develop content and activities for the event, and will present the Family Day.
External Contacts
- San Diego Family Magazine, San Diego Parent Magazine. Children's Hospital may
be a financial sponsor and also a contributor, as would other children advocate organizations.
Venue Dates for The Greatest Places
- Estimated in 1999
. Family Days would take place as film opening component, close to the opening date
of the film. Trunk and film materials must be at the Fleet Center in order to complete
this Action Plan.
Timeline for Planning and Implementation
- At least 4 months will be needed to arrange press coverage and advertisement of
this new program. During this time, activities for event, materials for give-a-way
table will be assembled, contacts at children's advocate groups will be arranged.
