Latitude and Longitude
- Students are to learn how to find latitude and longitude
- Students are to be given a list of The Greatest Places
to find the latitude and longitude
- Simulated search for some lost item is to be given as a cooperative learning experience
Distance
- Students are to learn how to use the key on a map in determining distance
- Using a length of string, students are to measure the distance from one point on
a globe to another and to record them
- Questions to be answered:
Why use an Arctic route to get from one greatest place to another?
Must you always use this type of route? Why? Why not?
When is a straight line not the shortest distance?
Location
Using The Greatest Places
:
- Where is ___(Tibet)____________? (Place other greatest places in blank area.)
- Name the bodies of water that touch the area of each Greatest Place.
- What Place (that you know for sure) is near this Greatest Place?
Direction
- From Aliquippa (or your home), where is (list the seven Greatest Places)
Give only the direction: S, E, N, W, SE, NE, NW, SW.
- What direction are you traveling if you go from one Greatest Place (i.e..
Greenland) to another Greatest Place (i.e.. NambibDesert). Make seven (7) such
questions to be done cooperatively.
